Mesa, AZ is in the fastest-growing region of the United States, experiencing the challenges of urbanization and growth balanced with preservation of natural resources in the arid West. Our team was engaged to develop a smart city strategic master plan in 2018 for the City of Mesa over the course of two phases, to include discovery and design. The discovery phase included a citizen engagement program in which we gathered over 80 citizens for an in-person design thinking workshop to discuss and gain citizen insights and sentiment on smart city technologies. The design phases included extensive analysis, research, and recommendations. The Smarter Mesa plan began implementation in March 2019 and most projects were implemented in the following 24 months. In 2021, Pioneer Partners was re-engaged to update the Smarter Mesa plan. Progress can be found on the Mesa website.
